Breathing new life into Richard III

The skeleton of King Richard III is due to be reburied in
Leicester Cathedral on Thursday 26 March. Ever since the remains of the king,
who was killed at the Battle of Bosworth in 1485, were found beneath a car park
in Leicester in 2012, his story has caught the public imagination. And 3D printing
has played a role in this story: wanting to find out more about Richard and how
he died, experts from Loughborough University’s Additive Manufacturing Research
Group scanned and 3D printed his extremely fragile skeleton. The replica
skeleton is on exhibit at a special Leicester Visitor centre, where you can see
his famously twisted spine as well as his damaged skull that bears witness to
the fatal blows that ended his life at the hands of the Tudors.
