Up in Flames

Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire and world-renowned architect Zaha Hadid has turned her attention to ladies’ feet, creating an eye-popping pair of 3D printed skyscraper shoes for London Fashion Week. The designer of the London Aquatics Centre for the 2012 London Olympics, Hadid was one of five top designers and architects who teamed up with leading footwear brand United Nude and 3D Systems to launch the Re-inventing Shoes project for London biggest fashion event (September 18–27) and the London Design Festival. Inspired by the flickering light of fire, Hadid’s shoes, ‘Flames’, originate from the point of the heel, ‘rising upwards to gently embrace the heel, while the ergonomically optimized foot bed provides comfort and support’. Soon to be seen strutting up the catwalk, if not running for the No.9 bus.
