3D printed rugby world cup

For the home team in this year’s Rugby World Cup tournament, holding this 3D printed replica of the Webb Ellis Cup might be England’s best chance of getting their hands on the 2015 trophy, after failing to get through to the quarter-finals. The official sponsor of the tournament, Canon – known by many of us for its cameras and copying machines – has produced an exact replica of the famous Victorian trophy with the help of 3D scanning and 3D print technology. The lovingly recreated trophy was printed on a 3D Systems SLA printer and then electroplated in gold. You can see how it was done in the video link here.  As the distribution partner of 3D systems printers in the UK, it makes sense that Canon want to show what can be achieved with the technology.
